Speaker Bio: Erik Veldman

Erik Veldman is Environment and Climate Change Project Manager with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). CSA is a not-for-profit membership-based association serving business, industry, government and consumers in Canada and the global marketplace. As a solutions-oriented organization, CSA works in Canada and around the world to develop standards that address real needs, such as enhancing public safety, helping to preserve the environment, and facilitating trade.
The Environment and Climate Change office of CSA plays a leading role in developing environmental standards and facilitating their effective use by government and business. Mr. Veldman has managed several projects working with government to design innovative services for quantifying and reporting GHG emission. He also works internationally to facilitate the development of GHG management standards and provide capacity building and training services to business and industry globally.
Mr. Veldman has represented CSA and Canada in several international standards initiatives and has recently been appointed Secretary of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Technical Committee on Environmental Management – ISO/TC 207.
Prior to joining CSA, Mr. Veldman was Sustainability Program Manager at the Pollution Probe Foundation. Pollution Probe is a Canadian charitable environmental organization that conducts environmental research and advocates for practical policy solutions.
During his career he has been involved in the delivery of environmental sustainability projects for the manufacturing sector as an Associate with the global consulting firm Five Winds International. He is also past Program Manager of the London Environment Centre, at London Guildhall University in the UK where he led projects advancing environmental management and social justice in East London.
Erik has a degree in biology from McMaster University at Hamilton, Ontario, and a post-diploma certificate in environmental management from Niagara College at St. Catharines, Ontario. Erik grew up in Guelph, Ontario where his first professional role was to implement waste management and recycling programs for the local industry sector.
