About Planning

Planning is responsible for commenting on various planning applications, the administration of our regulation and policy development. A role of all Conservation Authorities is to prevent the loss of life and property due to flooding and erosion, and to conserve and enhance natural resources.

CVC's Planning includes 16 staff persons comprised of Planners and Planning Ecologists responsible for: Plan Input; Plan Review; Regulations; and, Policy development.

Planning provides information, advice and expertise in support of provincial policies through the review of municipal and CVC initiatives. We provide review comments on Provincial initiatives (i.e. Planning Act Reform, Places to Grow legislation, etc). Planning reviews development applications under the Planning Act and the Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act. These include site plan approvals, subdivision and condominium reviews, severances, minor variances, etc. processed through Municipal approval systems and development permit applications from the Niagara Escarpment Commission. We are also responsible for the review of permit applications received under the Regulation and provides comments on larger scale Environmental Assessment applications.

We are currently undertaking a comprehensive review of our existing policies with the intent of updating these policies based on recent Provincial legislation and policies as well as contemporary environmental management approaches.
