Rattray Marsh
Rattray Marsh is an environmentally significant Great Lakes coastal marsh within the City of Mississauga. The area immediately surrounding Rattray Marsh has been heavily impacted by urbanization and represents numerous challenges with regard to managing the property and the land surrounding it.
In 2007, CVC developed an invasive species management plan for Rattray Marsh. Since then, CVC has been working with the local Rattray Marsh Protection Association and volunteers to implement the plan. Each summer, CVC hosts volunteer workdays with the Rattray Marsh Protection Association, and CVC’s Conservation Youth Corps volunteers are actively involved throughout the summer months completing invasive species removal and restoration work.
In 2009, CVC piloted a native wildflower propagation initiative at Rattray Marsh that is still going strong today. This project brings together local community volunteers to aid in the stewardship and restoration of Rattray Marsh, and encourages naturalization on residential properties.
