Well Construction

Following specific guidelines and regulations when constructing a well will decrease the risk of water contamination.  Landowners need to consider:

  • the location of the well with respect to septic systems, oil tanks, and other potential contaminant sources;
  • the sealing of the well casing and;
  • the grade of the surrounding soil.

If these guidelines and others are not followed, the quality of your water supply could be at risk.  If your groundwater becomes contaminated, it can affect the health of your family, and may also impact the quality of the groundwater supplying other wells, lakes or streams in the area.
